This popular Blue Flag beach, backed by dunes and fields, lies on the remote Mullet Peninsula, about 6 miles south of Belmullet. From the R313, two single track roads lead onto the beach. There is a small car park with a single stone picnic table and from the car park a sandy path (not suitable for wheelchair access) leads onto the beach. The soft, pale sand and clear waters of the bay make this a pleasant spot to take a dip in the sea or to practice watersports although there is no lifeguard presence here. The beach overlooks Blacksod Bay, which includes an extensive dune system and some interesting plant species. The area has been designated an Area of Scientific Interest due to the diverse habitats to be found here. The brackish waters and saltmarshes along this area of the coast attract a wide variety of birds, including some rare species and this is a good place to come birdwatching.
