More Information...

Monreith is a long, wide, sandy beach backed by a rocky area and cliffs which lead up to the small village bearing the same name. The beach is popular for swimming in the summer and fishing throughout the year. There are also many rock pools that can be explored as well as many exciting caves which line this area of coast, the most famous of which is known as "Butcher's Cave". This area of coastline is also popular with walkers, particularly at low tide when large stretches of sand are exposed, suitable for taking long, bracing walks. Historic Barsalloch Fort can be found just to the north of the beach. It is possible to see many species of bird along this stretch of the coastline. Parking is available next to the beach, which is reached down a long flight of steps. Toilets can be found at the bottom of the steps.
