More Information...

The sandy Manor Steps beach, to the east of Boscombe Pier is one of the quieter beaches in the Bournemouth area. A number of wooden groynes stretch out into the sea and from the beach there are views of the white cliffs of Hengistbury Head. The beach is backed by low-rise, wooded cliffs. Nearby Boscombe Pier recently underwent a £2.4 million restoration, and is now lined with a series of musical installations which young visitors might enjoy tapping out a tune on. There is also "fish-friendly" mini-golf, with biodegradable golf balls which are fed to the fish. A promenade leads away from the pier, past an RNLI lookout, and is a good place to come for bracing walks along the seafront. Further along the promenade, there are 15 new, attractively coloured beach huts, known as Bournemouth Beach Lodges. These are available for overnight stays for groups of up to six people. The beach is popular with locals who come here to enjoy the sand, play on the waves and take in the coastal views along the promenade. Pedestrian access to the beach is via a zig-zag pathway, which includes some steps, leading from Boscombe Overcliff Drive. For those wishing to avoid the steps, the beach can also be accessed from Fisherman’s Walk Cliff Lifts, which operate between Easter and the end of October. There are plenty of good facilities nearby, including a number of restaurants.
