Lannacombe beach is one of South Devon's true hidden gems. Nestled away between Prawle Point and Start Point this is a spot to avoid the summer crowds which flood the South Hams other beaches. It is roughly the same distance from the popular towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe but the route is very indirect via winding country lanes. A further limitation is the lack of available parking - there is a small car park, but it only holds around 15 cars. Set at the bottom of a low valley Lannacombe is flanked by high grassy headlands which give some shelter from the wind on what is quite a wild stretch of coast. The beach itself is mostly sandy with some pebbles above the high tide mark. To either side are rocky areas with plenty of rockpools and there is a small stream running down the beach. So, perfect for kids!
