The privately owned Lamorna Cove is set at the bottom of a lovely wooded valley somewhere between Mousehole and Porthcurno. The cove itself is very much devoid of trees and is quite a rugged granite affair. On the eastern slopes of the cove and around the high tide mark are lots of small granite boulders. These date back to a time when the cove's main industry was quarrying. Lamorna's now decaying pier was actually built to load this granite onto boats rather than to protect a fishing fleet like most would assume. Lamorna's little beach is accessed by the slipway inside of the quay. As the tide drops a reasonable area of sand is revealed.
