More Information...

Kells, on the Ring of Kerry is a small fishing village on the north coast of the Iveragh Peninsula. It is backed by gently rolling hills and has a distinctly rural feel. The small sheltered beach has fine sand and plenty of rock pools. It has been awarded Blue Flag status and is a good place to come to dig in the sand or paddle in the crystal clear waters. To the eastern end of the beach is a harbour with a small pier. The best views of the beach and surrounds can be had from nearby "Mountain Stage". On a fine day you can see over Dingle Bay and the Blasket Islands in the distance. The Gulf Stream runs close to the area, providing a micro-climate ideal for plant growth. A visit to Kells would not be complete without a trip to Kells Bay Gardens, a Victorian country estate, home to a wide collection of sub-tropical plants. Children will love exploring the Skywalk rope bridge and the giant ferns of the Primeval Forest here. There is also a walled garden, a cliff-top walk and a Thai restaurant. The area is rich in flora and fauna and is both a Special Area of Conservation and a Natural Heritage Area.
