Located in a rural area on the western coast of the island, Glen Wyllin Beach forms one stretch of a long strip of sand, shingle and rock coastline which stretches for miles in either direction. Cooildarry Nature Reserve nearby has a diverse range of flora set in a wooded valley and is a good place to come to see bluebells and wild primroses in springtime. Spooyt Vane, one of the island’s tallest waterfalls is also nearby. This is a good place to come for long, solitary walks. The hamlet of Kirk Michael lies less than half a mile behind the beach and has a newsagent and general store, a chemist shop and a petrol station, as well as being home to what is possibly the oldest pub on the island. There is a family-friendly campsite adjacent to the beach.
