On the eastern side of the river Nairn, at the mouth of the Moray Firth, the superb, pure white sands of East Beach stretch for miles. This delightful beach is backed by grassy dunes. There are plenty of natural rock-pools, which combine with the vast expense of sand to make this an excellent destination for families with young children to while away a sunny afternoon. It also makes a great place to start a long walk, looking out over the blue/green waters. This place gets lovely sunsets. In winter there is a chance to spot the Northern Lights. Walkers on the sandbanks need to keep an eye on the incoming tides, which can come in surprisingly quickly. Behind East Beach a woodland path takes walkers through Culbin Forest and beyond that is the Kingsteps Nature Reserve.
