More Information...

Doughmore is a long, spectacular, golden, sandy beach overlooking the Atlantic, and backed by an impressive sand dune system and the Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Resort. Plans to build a sea wall to protect the resort were shelved in 2016 after protests from locals. Ironically the reason for building the sea defences was given as "global warming" but it seems President Trump doesn't believe this exists! Although the beach, which can pick up an impressive amount of swell, is popular with surfers, swimming here is dangerous due to the strong offshore currents. A safer spot to take a dip is across the bay at White Strand. Doughmore Beach is however a wonderful place for walkers wanting to find some peace and quiet in an idyllic rural setting. The beach has a car park at the end of O’Donnell Road, next to the hotel. A track leads from the car park to the beach. The nearest facilities such as places to eat and drink can be found in the village of Doonbeg, about a kilometre south west from the beach.
