More Information...

Collieston is a small, sandy beach, sitting inside a quaint fishing harbour. The beach developed after breakwaters were introduced to the harbour in the 19th century. This resulted in a build-up of sediment and the creation of Collieston Beach. Sitting inside a natural harbour, and protected by the harbour wall, the beach is very sheltered and the water calm. Parking is available next to the beach along the harbour wall. The beach is accessed down a slipway. A café overlooks the beach. Excellent views can be seen from Cransdal Vantage Point, a headland to the north of the beach. The Forvie National Nature Reserve is also very close by. Although Collieston developed as a fishing village, today it is mostly a commuter town for nearby Aberdeen. Along this stretch of coastline there are many coves and caves, once the haunt of smugglers, and now steeped in history and legends.
