More Information...

The former mining village of Bunmahon lies on the R675, south of Waterford. The unspoiled beach here, offers a good stretch of sand, backed by dunes and rocky outcrops. It is flanked by spectacular cliffs which, together with the natural curve of the bay, provide some degree of shelter. The dunes behind the beach provide a habitat to a good variety of rare plant and animal life. The beach is manned by lifeguards during the summer months and has been awarded Blue Flag status. It is used by bathers and watersport enthusiasts. A surf school operates here in summer. The area used to be mined for copper and this section of the coast being known as the "Copper Coast". There are some great cliff-top walks along this stretch of the coastline, offering breathtaking views. The village of Bunmahon offers a range of facilities including pubs and places to stay. There is a holiday park backing the beach. The Copper Coast Geopark Centre in the village has an exhibition on the area's geological and historic features and also provides walking cards for an outdoor self-guided tour known as the Copper Coast Trail.
