More Information...

This long, wide, sandy beach runs alongside the Central Promenade of the town of Douglas, the capital and largest town of the Isle of Man. Higher up the beach, towards the promenade, the shore becomes mixed with shingle. Broadway beach is set in the middle of Douglas Bay, the natural harbour that helped Douglas become the most important settlement on the island. Behind the beach, the oldest surviving horse-drawn tramway in the UK still operates along the promenade, giving visitors an opportunity to step back in time, and take in the surroundings in style and comfort. Along the promenade there are plenty of facilities such as cafes, restaurants, places to drink, and places to stay, as well as a number of spots where cars can be parked. The beach is accessed down a very short flight of steps. A number of tourist attractions can be found near the beach, including the Manx Electric Railway Museum to the north, The Sayle Gallery along the promenade, and the Manx Museum in the town centre. Douglas Harbour, the main harbour for the island is to the south and the beach is a good spot to sit and watch ships leaving and entering the port.
