This 4km (2.5mi) long sheltered sandy beach is considered to be one of the best on the east coast. A popular spot with day trippers from Dublin it can get rather busy here during the peak season. However, there is a fair bit of space on the beach and the dunes behind so you should be able to find a spot to yourself. Visitors are well catered for and there are two car parks for day trippers. Until recently people would camp in the dunes at Brittas Bay. However, it was decided the associated litter and noise was a source of environmental damage, hence camping is no prohibited. However, there is a campsite nearby. The dunes are a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and are home to various wildlife including some rare species of coastal plant life. Whilst you may see Brittas Beach described as a naturist beach, this is in fact Sallymount, around the headland to the south.
