More Information...

In 1980, controversy surrounded the opening of Brighton's 200-yard 'naturist' section of beach. Critics claimed it would only attract perverts and voyeurs. Instead, as hoped by the local council, it brought a more liberal attitude to the city, and is one of the most popular naturist beaches in Britain today. Sitting at the eastern end of Brighton, close to the marina, it is only about a 5-minute walk from the centre of the town, making it the most easily accessible naturist beach in the country. The beach is popular for bathing, but it is a good idea to bring flip flops, as the shingle can be quite uncomfortable to walk on. At night, the beach becomes a popular spot for fishing. The closest parking to the beach is Black Rock Car Park, which offers access down a short flight of steps. This is also the terminal of Volk's Electric Railway. The beach is backed by a promenade and a small, grassy area. Facilities can be found in the centre of Brighton, including the pier, and a railway station with regular services to and from London.
