Not far from the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant, Braystones is a shingle and sand beach which is more or less submerged at high tide. The beach was once a popular holiday destination and a row of beach bungalows lie just above the shoreline. Braystones railway station lies just behind these chalets, and the single-track coastal railway runs alongside the beach. The industrial buildings of Sellafield can be seen from the beach and behind them lie the fells of the nearby Lake District National Park. Out to sea are views from the beach across the Irish Sea. As the beach is west-facing it is a good spot for sunsets.
