More Information...

Bovisand is a sheltered bay which is easily reached from Plymouth. It has fine golden sand and low-rise cliffs on either side. The beach at Bovisand is very wide when the tide is out, creating plenty of space for playing on the sand. As the beach slopes gently the water is shallow and therefore relatively warm on a sunny day, particularly after the tide has come in. There are also plenty of rock pools which make it fun for young explorers. The bay is also quite popular with snorkelers. During the summer months there is a bus (number 54) to the beach from the city. Both the bus stop and the car park are to the north of the beach and from the car park or bus stop there is a steep descent of around 5 minutes to get to the beach. For this reason the beach is not the best choice for those with mobility problems. Because of the easy access from Plymouth, Bovisand Bay is popular with locals. It can get quite busy when the tide is in. The parking is owned by the café and costs £2. There are toilets behind the café. There is more pay-and-display parking further along at Crownhill Bay. There are plenty of walks around the beach, which is situated alongside the South West Coast Path. Plymouth is a 5- mile walk to the north. Above the beach there are plenty of grassy areas, with scenic views, perfect for a family picnic. On a sunny day there are views from the beach across to Rame Head in Cornwall.
